A voice message is useful the first time you hear it and unfindable afterwards. You roughly remember what was in it; where it was, no longer. VoiceClue turns everything anyone ever told you into something you can search.
Questions instead of search terms
You do not type keywords, you type the question already in your head: “When does the truck arrive?” or “What does Mum want for her birthday?” VoiceClue searches across every message and every person — not only the one you happen to remember.
The answer does not come alone. Beside it stands the passage it came from: the original sentence, the message it belongs to, and the second in the recording. So you can check the answer instead of having to believe it.
The search never leaves your iPhone
This is the part that surprises most people: your transcripts are searched exclusively on the device. Nothing is transmitted for the search itself — not even when your archive holds hundreds of messages.
Only phrasing the answer involves a choice. With Apple Intelligence's on-device model, everything stays on the device as well. If you pick the server-side answer instead, only your question and the excerpts found on your device go to our server in the EU — not your archive, not your recordings. Nothing is stored there.
If your device does not support the local model, the app shows the passages it found without a phrased answer — rather than leaving the question unanswered.
Why this is more than full-text search
During analysis, VoiceClue splits every transcript into passages, computes a meaning representation for each one on the device — using Apple's own language model, with nothing transmitted for it — and files it in the local search index. A question therefore finds something even when none of your words appear literally: “When does the truck arrive?” also matches “The lorry is booked for nine.”
Only the passages that actually fit the question are used, not a fixed quota of hits. If one fits, the answer is built from one — rather than diluting it with bycatch that makes it unreliable.
What it cannot do
What was said can be found. What nobody said appears in no transcript, and VoiceClue does not invent it. If you want to know what someone might have meant, you will get no answer here — and that is deliberate.
It does not search your chats either. It knows only the voice messages you handed it, and nothing else on your phone.
